I will try to make this as easy as possible. 
This was done with PaintShop Pro 6, but can be done with Paintshop Pro5 as well.
Making your own brushes is pretty easy, once you know how to do it. 
Custom brushes have to be no larger than 255 x 255 in size. You can make a brush out of about anything.
We are going to make this kitty cat into a brush.
Right click on it and save it to your hard drive or you can pick an image of your own.

If you saved this kitty cat, you will see that he is a bit too big, so resize him.
(Remember he has to be no larger than 255 x 255. When I resized him it was to 196 wide and 255 high)
Now go up to your selections tool in the top tool bar and click select all.

Now go to your brush tool on the left tool bar.

Now go over to your tool option palette. Click the first tab and you will see the Brush with an arrow on
it over to the right of the palette, click it.

Now a drop down menu is going to become visible. Click Custom.

A new window is going to pop up. This is where some custom brushes that came with psp are.
Click on Create and then you will see your new brush be added to the window.

Congratulations you have just created your own brush!!

Now before we do anything else, you will want to make sure this one is saved. 
PSP creates a UBrush file for psp6 and JascBrush.JBR for psp5 for the new brushes you create. 
You want to go into your explorer and change
the name of this file to kittycat. This way it will not be over written when you create more brushes.
Now go back to psp and lets finish playing with brushes.

Now click your brush, click okay and open a new image. Lets go for a 300 x 300.
Put your brush right in the middle and click. you should have an image like this.

Now you might notice that mine seems a bit darker than yours. 
That is because I carefully clicked the brush a few
times without moving the mouse. You can have your brush whatever color you wish.
