This is an addon for the lace doily tutorial for those having problems.
For the full lace tutorial, please refer to Candeekiss's tutorial.

I follow the tutorial to get to the point where I have two layers; black and lace.  I've also done the two steps that has left my black layer with only the outline around the lace.

I'm going to leave the outside edge as black for now.  I add a new rastor layer and call it fill.  On this layer I use the selection tool set to a circle.

Make sure you put the cursor exactly in the center of the lace on the fill layer.  Draw the circle to the point where you will want the parts under the lace to be transparent, not filled with the doily fill.  Now flood fill this area with black.

Now make the black layer active.  Before you use the wand on the background, make sure you change the tolerence from 0 to 30.  The ants should now be around the black outside line.  Switch back to the fill layer and fill with the doily pattern. While on the fill layer, use the wand to select the black area and delete it.

(I made my fill sharper and bigger, and you can use it by right clicking on it and saving it.  Don't worry, it is bigger, just constrained..)

Make the black layer active and click where the black outline around the doily is.

Cut it and past it as a selection on the lace layer.  Now follow Candee's directions for flood filling that black outline.  Then use the wand and select the white border.  Go to Selections/Modify/Select Similar.  Use Candee's Blade Pro preset.

While this is all still selected, add the drop shadow per her instructions.

Here is an extra step you can take on the fill layer before you merge.

Click on the background of the fill layer with the wand.  Hold down the shift key and click in the center of the fill layer.  Now go to Selections/Modify/Expand.  Expand by 1 pixel.  Go to Guassian Blur and blur by 1.  You can also add a drop shadow at this point.

You are now ready to merge visible layers.
