Welcome to the "Land of Odd!"
page 2

This piece caused me some nightmares because I was trying to recreate an earlier version for hours.  It taught me a very painful lesson.  When playing and discovering something exciting, immediately write down the steps you took!  I tried for hours to recreate version #1 to no avail.  If anyone can find the steps, please email me!  At least I was happy with versions #2 and #3, and I did write down the steps!  Click on any of the 3 versions to see them full size.

"Your note about writing things down... YES!!  We do have a tool to help us with our memory, and since I have none, I use it all the time.  Edit/History!!  I have a section on my Tips and Tricks page that you can link to if you want here... "  (Thanks Laura!)

I started this image with a 400x300 transparent image.  I selected the gradient Fading Sprectrum to flood fill the image.  Next, Effects/Illumination/Lights.  Choose 5up.  Now add a new layer and flood fill with Pink Neon.  Trim from the white line down, ie, delete from there down.  Merge Flatten Layers.

Then Effects/Textures/Wood Grain.  Then use the rectangle selection tool and select the top purple part down to just a little of the white.  Guassian Blur 3.  Add a new layer and flood fill with the Pink Neon again.  Then once again trim from the white line down, delete the bottom part.  Use Guassian Blur 1 on the top purple part.  With this layer still active, go to Effects/Illumination/Sunburst. Use the Upper Left.  Now it's time to start adding things.

Add a new layer and go to the Shapes.  Choose the button shape shown on the left for the big planet.  The button on the right will be used for the small moon.

You make the planet the size you want it to be.  Now go to Effects/Artistic/Enamel.  Choose Custom6.  Click on the background on this layer and invert the selection.  Add a new layer.  Go to Effects/3D/Cutout.  The settings are Vertical and Horizontal 10, Opacity and Blur 25.  Say OK and then go to Effects/Blur/Guassian Blur/3.  Make sure this layer is on top of the planet.  You can move the two around to see them better.

On the planet layer, go back to Effects/Illumination/Sunburst. Use the Upper Left setting again.  Now move the cutout layer to the right over the planet.  If you want more of an effect, you can add the Sunburst effect twice to the planet.

Now add a new layer for the moon.  Do the same steps for the cutout layer.  Go back to the moon layer and click on the background with the magic wand.  Expand the selection 3 pixels and delete to get rid of the dark line around the moon.  Expand again by 2 pixels, then go to Guassian Blur/1.  Now move your cutout directly over the moon.  Go back to Sunburst and use the Upper Right.

For version #3, I made the Pink Neon top layer active.  Then I went to illumination/lights and used the Sunset.  Then I had to add the Sunburst, Upper Left again to this layer.  Depending on how big you made your planet and where you positioned it, you will get different looks such as in this version #4.  Version #5 has the sunburst added once more to the background layer.

The final touch I added to my fantasy world was to poplulate it with scary bugs!  Using the tube Beetles, I put each bug on his or her own layer.  Then adjusted the properties of each layer to be 50% opacity.  Hey.........maybe I could get a job designing on the next animated bug movie???
