Step 1: The Middle Section
Open a new transparent image 500x400.
Add a new layer and call it backwall. You can either use the selection tool to draw a rectangle that is 300x250, or you can paste the backwall.gif on as a selection on this layer. Add another layer called left wall. Use the selection tool to select an area about 70 pixels wide from the top to the bottom of the back wall.

Use the fill tool and set it to Pattern. Use one of the small stone fills provided or use your own pattern fill. Leave the left wall selected. Add a drop shadow with these settings:

Trim off the bottom of the left wall's drop shadow. Copy and paste as a new layer, right wall. Mirror this layer so the drop shadow is facing the right way. Add a new layer called brick inset. Use the brick tube at 60%. You can use the colorize to change the tone of your bricks. Use the deform tool to stretch the sides of the brick inset so that they just slide to the edge of the sides. The brick layer is under the left and right side layers.

The next step is to add the bottom of the fireplace.
