Getting Your "Fill"
of PSP7; page 2
You need to be aware of what will happen
when you Left click or Right click with your mouse.
The left click is Foreground, the right click is Background.

So let's say you had your Styles and
your Texture swatches all filled with a choice. You can see from
the image below how that would work. The style and texture I had
chosen for my top boxes were the foreground. When I left clicked
in the selected area of my image, my Frosted Glass pattern applied
in a Footpath texture is what I got. When I right clicked
in the selected bottom half of my image, I got the Autumn gradient
in the Tree Bark texture. By the way, isn't that combination
of Autumn and Tree Bark great looking? Another thing to take note
of here is how the image looks different before you merge and flatten it.
The textures have a transparent quality to them so that you will not see
the full effect until you have merged and flattened the image. The
default color for merging is white.

Fig.9
While I am showing you how things look combined,
let me do one example where you would
have to use Null. In the left-hand image I first selected
the Pine pattern fill and made sure that the foreground texture box was
set to Null. On the right-hand side, I changed my pattern to Driftwood,
and changed the null texture setting to Woodgrain texture. I added
a new layer and flood filled with my new pattern and the texture.
This gave me an interesting looking wood design.
You will need to experiment with all the
variations that you can do. And remember what I said above about
the textures having a transparent quality? When you place a texture
over a solid pattern like I did here in layers, it looks the same after
you merge and flatten as it does before. When your texture is opaque,
transparency is not a factor. So this sample is different from from
the one above where you had transparent area showing through your textured
pattern: a combination of a texture and a style.
