You heard the word vector and you ran away?  Now calm down, it's actually not what you might be thinking.  This is just to get you over your fear of touching that vector setting.  We aren't going to do anything heavy duty or stressful.

There is one thing you need to have for this tutorial, so download it here........it's a font called Boxes.  Everyone who has Windows should have their wingdings, but just in case your dog ate them, you will need to have both 1 and 2.  Wingdings.  For some of the extras applied to the furniture you can use Courier New or Times New Roman with good results.  You don't need to have a font installed to use it in PSP.  Just open the font by double clicking on it, wherever you have the .tff file.  Then minimize it.  It will now be available during your PSP session.

Later on in the furniture tutorials I will show some examples of using the Shapes Presets for an added flourish to your furniture.  But the basic furniture will be done using Vector Text.  There will be no node editing, unless you want some?

Here is a handy guide for which keystrokes to use to get certain results:

Boxes Font
Some of the boxes font can be used for more than one kind of furniture.  For instance: #4 can be used for either a door, small cabinet or dresser.  Lower case d, f and h are useful as frames, not furniture.  The fonts = (equal sign), " (quotation mark) and ? make good windows, but the ? can also make a good wall unit.  You'll notice this more as you begin to make your furniture.

Before we get started I want to show you something.  Below is a collection of dings with different presets of the Inner Bevel applied.  What I discovered is if the ding is fairly solid the only preset that looks good is the Soft Edge.  If the ding is mostly hollow, the preset Groove is excellent for a "carved in wood" look.  Take the horse for example.  The solid ding of the horse looks like a piece of carved wood that sits on top of the background.  The hollow ding of the horse looks like it is actually carved right into the wood.  I personally prefer the carved in wood look for my furniture.  With the solid butterfly you see an example of applying Edge/Enhance instead of a bevel.  This can also work for a carved look.

Ok.........ready?  The first thing we are going to make is a filing cabinet.  It's easy, fun and fast!  After you have made the filing cabinet, you should be able to make any of the other pieces of furniture without every single detail shown in screen captures.  So don't skip to any of the other furniture until you have completed a filing cabinet.  Each furniture tutorial will add new twists on how to finish your pieces.  Making doors would be a good one to try next since we will be using Shape Presets, along with text, to make knobs and handles.
