Tamlin Flower Tutorial

I first want to tell you about the cat that is in this picture. It was a friend of mine's beautiful cat that has recently passed on. Tamlin was a big part of their family and the loss is a terrible one. We all send our best wishes out to them and know that their beautiful Tamlin is watching over them.

This page is dedicated to Tamlin.

On to the tutorial.

To do this image you will need two things, first a flower image and second a subject that can be placed inside the flower. If you want to use my images, click on the flower image for the full size image.  Tamlin the cat is already full size, so just right click on him and save him.

With the flower image active, we are going to cut out part of the flower.  Take your lasso tool...

Over in the tool options palette, you will want to use these settings.

Go to your flower image and start to click around the petals that are closest to the front of the picture.
You should have marching ants around the petals that you want to put your subject behind.
It should look something like this.

Edit, cut, paste as new image.

Your image should look something like this now.

Now copy and paste as a new layer your subject on to the flower image.

With your mover tool....

Move your subject over to the flower that you cut the petals from.  Go to the petals image that you cut out earlier.

Copy and paste as a new layer onto the flower image.  With your mover tool, move the petals to the exact place where you cut them from.  You might have to zoom in to make sure you have it lined up right.  Now your image should look something like this.

Merge all the layers.

Now at this point you can either add a frame, border, or if you would like, you can proceed on with this tutorial and we will apply a mask to the image and place it on a wood plaque.
