Making a Transparent Mask
Again, I learned this technique from Harry Heim (http://pico.i-us.com/)

1.  Bring up both the image you want masked and the edge/mask you want to
apply.

2.  Now, click on the mask to make it active.  Make the mask the same size as
your image.

3. Make sure you have this part unchecked, so that you can input the right
Pixel Size.  Click ok.

4.  Now, copy the mask and go to Edit/Paste and paste as a new
layer on the Picture/Image you are masking.

Make sure the mask/edge is the top layer.

5.  Go to your Layer Palette, select Layer 1, then select MULTIPLY as the
blending mode.

6.  On the opacity slider, move it until the image shows through as much as
you would like

I start at 50% and play with it.

7.  In order to get depth to the image with a drop shadow, highlight the
inside of the image.

8.  Merge/flatten all.  Do not deselect, you need the ants to keep on
marching.

 9.  Go to Effect>Image>DropShadow> and play with the features. For this
image I used:

and voila!
