Masked Image

The images and graphics here are smaller than original for easier loading time.
Here is an image and a mask that I am going to be using for this tutorial.
You can click on the thumbnails to save the full size image, or
you can use your own favorite image or mask.

Image 1                                                 Mask
Click for full size fantasy image
Click for full size leaf mask
The first thing you want to do is to open a new image.
You want to make this larger than the Image 1.
I made mine 400 x 400.
Now go to your Image 1 and select a lighter color for your foreground and a darker color for your background.
Flood fill your new image with your foreground color (the lighter color).
Add a new layer. Go to your layer palette and click the part I have highlighted.
A new window will pop up. You can name this one Texture.

Floodfill the Texture layer with the background color (the darker color).
With the Texture layer still active we are going to apply the mask.
Go to the top tool bar click Masks, New, From Image.

A window is going to pop up with some selections you need select.
Use the setting I have selected, if you are using the leaf mask.
If you are using another mask, then select that name in the drop down list.

Once your mask is applied it should look something like this.

Go back up to Masks in the top tool bar and click Delete.
A new window will pop up click yes.
With your magic wand click inside the leaf.
you should now have marching ants around the leaf.
Now I had to go in and expand my selection by 2 because I had some pixels
that were being left out.
To do this, go up to Selections, Modify, Expand.
A new window will pop up. Expand it by 2, if needed.
This is where we are going to be applying a cutout.
The setting are as follows.
Filled interior with color=unchecked,
Interior Color=Doesn't matter cuz we aren't using it.
Shadow Color=Black,
Opacity=95,
Blur=25,
Vertical and Horizontal=10.
Click okay.
Should look something like this.

Now that the cutout has been applied we can work on the texture for that dark color.
Taste vary here, so you can apply whatever texture you would like.
I am going to use Blade Pro, with the Mars preset.
With your magic wand, select the dark color of the Texture layer.
Add your texture. This is how mine came out.

Now make the Image 1 active. In this case Image 1 is
