Text

Is working with Text any different?  Well, let's start with Vector Text first.  It's my first choice now when adding Text to anything.  Color me excited when I discovered how I could edit the text I had applied and not lose a bit of quality!  That's the big benefit of using Vector Text.

There is one important thing to remember before clicking on the Text tool.  Check your Styles boxes under the Color Palette.  Make sure the top box is set to Null with the bottom box having the color you want to use for text.  Well, unless you want text that has two colors, a Stroke and a Fill.  Remember, the Stroke is the outside/border.

The second thing to know is that you don't have to have a font installed in order to use it in PSP.  Explore the folder/folders where you keep your extra fonts.  Note!  Do NOT name a folder on your system FontsWindows will read it as a system folder and give you a big problem.  Anyway, find the font you would like to use in your PSP session.  Double click on it to open it up.  Now minimize it so that it will be available in PSP.  No, you don't have to install every font you want to use in PSP.  Keep the number of your fonts down!

Now click on your Text tool.  Scroll through the drop down menu to find the font you want to use.  See how the solid black color is set as the Fill?  That's the way you want it unless you want the font to look hollow.  If so, have the solid color in your top Styles box.

Check Vector and Antialias.  You always want Antialias for your font text so that it will not look jaggy.  Say ok.

After you say ok, your text will most likely not be fully on your image.  Move the cursor around until you see the Mover tool show up.  Now move your text to where you want it.  See the Vector box around your text?  You can edit your text while that is up.  If you lose that box, click on the Object Selector/Node Editing tool and then click on the Text again.

So here I am, stretching my text way up and then in.  To get out of the node edit, you can click on another tool such as the Selection tool.  Now see how nice the text still looks?  I didn't lose any quality from messing around with it.

Once it is all done, Convert to Raster Layer.

Now how about plain ol' Floating text?  Check Floating and Antialias.

While the Text is still selected, Cut and Paste As New Layer.  If you don't, it's stuck on the layer where you left/dropped it.

Well gee, how do I get all my text selected again?  Click on the Selection tool.  Draw a box around the text.  See the marching ants?  Now left click inside that box.  Voila!  Your text is all selected again.
