Ok, everyone still trying to figure out some of the new features in PSP7, raise your hands.  Me!  I wasn't in the mood to wrap my brain around tech this and tech that, so I decided I was just going to play and see what would happen.  What came of that was some fun and easy to make rugs.  Use this tutorial as a guide, but design your rugs according to your own tastes.  The point of this tutorial is to have some fun in PSP7 and do some experimenting.  The rug base is very simple to make.  Only the fringe is a bit difficult.

Open a new transparent image, 300x150.  Use the Flood Fill tool, Style Gradient.  If you are still having problems figuring out the new Flood Fill options, look over my PSP7 Flood Fill Tutorial.  Here is a brief look at how to set your flood fill to a gradient.

For the rug in this lesson I used the Blue Metallic Gradient.  If you take a look again at the various rugs on the entrance page, you will see that you can experiment with other gradients.

Go to Effects/Artistic/Contour/Custom 1

Now go to Effects/Texture Effects/Textures/Paper

You should now expand your Canvas to increase your work area.

With the Blue Metallic, I had to trim 1 pixel off the top and the bottom.

Now it's time to tackle the fringe for your rug.
