Move the image layer under the heart layer. You can now move the base into position if you already didn't it have it there. The choice of how you want your base layer is up to you. You may want it on top of the heart, or you may want it below the heart.

Now to make a perfect transparent gif. Make sure that the background color you used is flipped to the bottom box of the Styles. (see image below) Go to Layers. Then Merge/Merge All (Flatten). See your Increase and Decrease icons? That shows you that you are still working with 16 million colors because it is active, not grayed out.
Now click on the Decrease to 256 Colors arrow. This box comes
up. Make sure you have these settings.

Ok, you are reduced to a gif file now. The arrows indicate that. With the lilac still being on the bottom box, click on the Set Transparency icon. This box comes up. Check the middle circle. Click on Proof. See? Perfectly transparent.
This heart has no white edge problems.
